GMS Band
Who is allowed to join band?
Band is open to all incoming students interested in playing a musical instrument. Please note: band is NOT truly a "club." Instead, band is a regularly scheduled related arts class that takes place for 45-minute periods, five times per week.
How do I join band?
Incoming 6th grade students are recruited to join band in the spring semester of their 6th grade year when the band director makes visits to local elementary schools. Students interested should express their interest during that time to be enrolled in band. If a student decided they would like to join once the school year starts, they may ask the band teacher to join the class.
Who is the band director?
The band director at Greenbrier Middle School is Mr. Gerdom.
How often does the band meet?
Please note: band is NOT truly a "club." Instead, band is a regularly scheduled related arts class that takes place for 45-minute periods, five times per week. Occasionally, in addition to two concert performances per year, band students will have scheduled after-school rehearsals. This typically only occurs a few times per year, and is mostly for 7th and 8th grade students only.
In what kinds of activities does the band participate?
At Greenbrier Middle School, there are three different band classes that make up two different ensembles (Beginning Band and 7th and 8th Grade Band).
The Beginning Band typically performs two concerts per year - one in the fall and one in the spring.
The 7th and 8th Grade Band typically performs at least two concerts per year - one in the winter and one in the spring, in addition to an an occasional performance at Concert Performance Assessment that typically occurs in early March. The 7th and 8th grade band also performs as a pep band for home football games, and 8th grade band students only perform as a pep band for basketball games.
